Tuesday, January 16/18...My last blog on the other side of eighty-five, I tried to explain that one has to do physical activities, i.e. walking, exercise, dancing, and that is of course hoping that the physical side of life is without problems, I have a problem, arthritis, which came upon me suddenly at the end of last summer...now it is with trepidation that I exercise, but I do it...yoga  twice a week and arthritis exercise once a week, not to mention dance around the house.. all with pain which I try to control with tylenol...but along with the physical one should keep mental abilities, alert..so

Mind over matter, and that is read, write, have a blog, email, and keep interested in others, through facebook, newspapers etc...only thing is on this side of eighty five I have macular degeneration which means I"m having eye problems big time...painting, is something I want to get into, but the other problem I have is concentration.  One should try to take time, do things carefully, pay attention and not think that a masterpiece can be done in five minutes...sorry it's impossible.  but I do try.

But concentration not being my skill, it is clear that I should at least try to be alert...today at supper time, decided to make some toast to go along with my supper.  Had lovely egg bun, it was a little too thick for my toaster so decided to slice it...still a little thick, but if I watched it would do o.k.  BUT, blame the Cat...Mischa..who was whining away for his evening meal of meat...I forgot the toast and started to give him his dinner..Well, boom off went the wailing of the sirens in the building as smoke poured out of the toaster,  I flew to the window, opened it.  waved away at the smoke detector with my towel...opened the front door.. all to no avail..  In no time, up came all the nurses and preposees, ...and followed very soon by two tall good looking fire men.

They reminded me to put the fan on over the stove, looked at my toast, said I sure did a good job of burning toast...took my name phone number and address, and then proceeded to leave, after saying sorry but they couldn't stay for wine, even though I told them there were really no good looking men around...they had to leave..darn.  HA.

Well in other words, the other side of eighty five, makes it clear that one has to concentrate, do not do three or four things at a time..pay attention...and be sure to take your time doing things...even if it means writing it down and checking it off..and first things first.

Life can be exciting, but it can be dangerous...and even though my friends in the other apartments were impressed that three fire trucks were here, and all the doors were locked and elevators stopped. People were worried, and it could be scary not knowing if there was a real fire or not...it helped to know that if there were a fire it would be taken care of quickly as Glenna my daughter pointed out, it is not really the way to find out..

So now it's time to simmer down, read a book, and take time to relax...get ready for bed, and remember to make sure the oven is off all the burnsers are off, lights are out, and the cat is fed...and then time for bed...g'nite.
